MINED MISTAKES

There’s something serenely calculated about the way that each key note, alternated snare and bass beat and cyphered lyric fall in ‘Mistakes’ from newcomer Kofi Holmes Attivor aka Mined. Originally penned as an apology following the breakdown of a relationship, the continuous calm of the song’s instrumentation seems at odds with the post-love context, but if we refer back to preceding single ‘Pangs’, we begin to see a pattern forming. It’s all melancholic loveliness, led by a passion for tranquil electronica and emotive lyrics which began when his parents bought him his first “sleek, silver Casio.” Listening to ‘Mistakes’, it’s incredibly easy to become lost in the seamless fabric of Attivor’s moving low-toned voice and nostalgic selections that bring to mind early Nintendo games and languid afternoons in the sun. It’s clear that Mined’s music contains a level of escapism, one that he chartered himself a time away from his university studies as a Molecular Biologist. Harnessing his philomath capabilities, the London-born artist has already made his first EP, one that we’re eagerly awaiting the release of. - HT
